Any paving job will always begin with the building of a base or foundation for which the pavement will be installed on. Most paving contractors will do what is called hot mix paving, which means that they will arrive on site with the paving materials preheated. Brick or block paving has been very popular lately because it is stylish as well as cheap to manufacture and install.

The paving cost will vary based on the size of the paving job and and which type of paving materials will be used. Paving can be a very cost effective and inexpensive option in providing a smooth and flat surface for your driveway or walkway.

There are many different types of paving materials that can be used:

  • Asphalt Paving
  • Stone Paving
  • Concrete Paving
  • Brick Paving
To begin an asphalt paving project, rocks and sand are mixed together with an asphalt binder which has been preheated. This mixture is then place onto a spreading machine and then compacted by a rolling machine that compacts the mix into the base in order to form a flat, smooth surface.

Asphalt paved driveways are considered to be far superior to concrete driveways because they are far more resistant to chemicals and less likely to form cracks when freezing and thawing. Concrete driveways will require heavy reinforcing of the surface in order to resist cracking and splitting from the elements and also take more time to prepare and finish.
